Optimizing Productivity Through Training

As metalforming technology continues to advance, TCR understands the importance of training for stampers who want to maximize production on the shop floor.  “We’ve found that most plants have operators that have never been formally trained regardless of how many years experience they may have,” said Todd Wenzel.

TCR’s basic training sessions typically focus on four major elements:

  • A mechanical understanding of how a punch press operates
  • Training on the auxiliary equipment that supports the press
  • Understanding how a die operates
  • Examining the interaction that takes place between the press, the auxiliary equipment and the die

Practical application is the backbone of TCR’s programs which use specific examples right off the shop floor.  Training programs can also be tailored to fit a customer’s special needs.   Topics for custom programs can range from the benefits of integrating computers into the pressroom to improve automation and gain higher productivity and efficiency to the challenges faced by operators during daily operation.

What Customers Are Saying:
A number of companies have compared their operators’ efficiency and productivity both before and after TCR’s training by measuring efficiency on each die on a piece per hour basis.  One company reported that prior to the training its operators were producing about 1.7 million parts per week.  After the training was completed, production increased to between 2.4 and 2.6 million parts per week.  The company earned back 1,000 hours a week and gained back training costs in just three weeks.
